The Fares4Free Operations Manager, Leon Fisher, was delighted to be given the day off work today to help support Poppyscotland with this year's annual Poppy Appeal. Leon is an ex Royal Air Force Commissioned Officer and Chinook Helicopter Training Captain who has seen active service during five consecutive summer tours of duty in Afghanistan. Leon was a medical evacuation pilot, amongst other roles, and was responsible for picking up injured servicemen and women from the battlefield.
Remembrance is of particular importance to Leon and he had the following to say, "Poppyscotland do an absolutely terrific job and the support they provide not only to veterans, but their family members across the whole of Scotland is vital. I am extremely proud to be able to support Gordon Michie, Head of Fundraising for Poppyscotland and his amazing team if only for one day. Working within the Veteran Charity Sector, I see first hand how vital the support is that Poppyscotland deliver due to the funds raised within this annual campaign."
"Remembrance Day is hugely significant to myself and all Veterans as we honour the supreme sacrifice made by so many servicemen and women on behalf of their country, and we owe it to them that their actions should continue to give inspiration to future generations. On a personal note, as a Veteran myself, I am delighted that Fares4Free actively recruit from within the Veteran Community, one of the main reasons Fares4Free have recently been awarded their Armed Forces Covenant, Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award."
David Gibson, the Fares4Free Founder made the following comment, "We're so proud to have Leon working with Fares4Free. He and the rest of the team bring with them much life experience that only adds to their skill set. This helps us all empathise and understand the needs of the veterans and families we assist everyday. We're grateful to Poppyscotland for the assistance they've given our charity from its first year and to the Armed Forces Covenant Trust for recognising our commitment to employing and recognising the unique set of skills that comes from people who have served in our Armed Forces."
