Fares4Free and Blesma have always had a strong working relationship together and their partnership is growing from strength to strength. Fares4Free with their specifically designed vehicles and trained drivers, can safely transport any size of wheelchair. This ensures that Blesma members and their family members who require specialised transport have the same opportunities wherever possible. A recent upgrade now allows multiple wheelchair users to be able to travel simultaneously in our flagship vehicle making such a difference across the Veteran community.
Emma Gration, Blesma Outreach Officer in Scotland and our main point of contact within the Blesma family, recently invited our own driver, David Owens to participate in an afternoon of quad biking as a thank you to his continued support and great service driving Blesma Veterans throughout the year. David's driving skills on the quad left a few raised eyebrows but a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
Emma Gration had the following to say, "The fact that we have the option to utilise Fares4Free to transport our members who otherwise would not be able to attend our events in Scotland is a huge bonus. It is very much appreciated by us at the Association as well as the members. It helps to reduce social isolation and loneliness as well as allowing our members to meet others who are in similar situations where they can share experiences. Friendships have been formed during trips where more than one member has been in the vehicle at the same time. Our members are also getting to know the drivers who have great empathy and are an amazing support to those who are perhaps a bit anxious about coming along on their own."
