The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and The Veterans' Foundation have each awarded Fares4Free £30,000 to kick start their new National Volunteer Project. With a total of £60,000 now available over the next 12 months Fares4Free can begin an exciting and comprehensive national recruitment campaign across Scotland.
The Fares4Free Operations Manager, Leon Fisher, who is managing the project had the following to say, "Being awarded these two grants is fundamental to our strategic plans of growing our volunteer capacity across the whole of Scotland. Being able to target key geographic areas in which support is lacking, but vitally needed, will bring much needed help and support to the many Veterans and their families living in remote and rural areas."
"Recruiting more volunteers like Anne Muir, who is pictured above, is key to the continuation of the Fares4Free ethos of providing more than just a journey. Anne has been volunteering with Fares4Free for just over a year and operates mainly in the Kirkcaldy region. She is absolutely brilliant, and her resourcefulness and flexibility really make her stand out. Anne doesn't just drive, she engages with the Veterans that she transports and makes them feel safe and secure, thanks to her previous skills of working within Fife Council coupled with her Mental Health First Aid training provided by Fares4Free."
"These two grants will allow us to develop Anne's skills even further as we introduce our new fully accredited Volunteer Training Day encompassing skills such as basic first aid, deescalation techniques, manual and people handling, and advanced driving theory."
"On behalf of everyone at Fares4Free I would like to thank The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and The Veterans' Foundation for their tremendous generosity."
