After a successful trustee recruitment period, we have welcomed 4 new trustees to our board, to support in the development of our new 5 year strategy. As previously discussed we will feature one of our new trustees each week to officially welcome them to the Fares4Free family, however we have never officially welcomed Harry via our social media platforms, so we felt it only correct that you get to hear from Harry also.
Can you please introduce yourself and explain a little bit of your professional background?
I was born in Edinburgh and spent my formative years in Ethiopia where my father taught English. My schooling was completed in Scotland and thereafter I worked for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London. I subsequently attended Napier College, Edinburgh University, and the Open University. Following an apprenticeship with an Edinburgh law firm, I qualified as a solicitor in 1994 becoming a specialist in the administration of wills, trusts, and estates.
Why did you want to join the Fares4Free board of trustees and what do you see yourself bringing to the charity?
I take a keen interest in military history and the UK armed forces and, in the 1980s, served in the Territorial Army. Running a charity is not unlike administering a private trust and I would like to use my professional skills to help our armed forces community through charity work.
Why is it important to you to help The Armed Forces Community.
We send our young service people to fight wars in our name and they are supported well by the public for the duration. However, on their return from operational duties and over the years that follow, some require extra support when they transition into civilian life or in later years. Ex-military personnel need support from the very society they have served. It is for this reason that I consider it important to help our armed forces community.
